Tim McCarver debuted with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1959 at the age of 17. As a great catcher and awesome hitter, he became a mainstay on the great Cardinals teams of the 1960s. An All-Star in 1966 and 1967, he played in four decades before retiring in 1980 and moving to the broadcast booth. A best-selling sports author as well as an Emmy-winning announcer, Tim McCarver won baseball’s Ford C. Frick Award in 2012 and was enshrined in the broadcaster’s wing of the Hall of Fame.
