Ask Dr Echols, Ep. 36 – COVID 19 Delta Variant

Ask Dr Echols, Ep. 36 – COVID 19 Delta Variant

The delta coronavirus variant is infecting a mounting number of people in rural Missouri. The variant, first detected in India in October, was upgraded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention this week from a “variant of interest” to a “variant of concern.” The CDC estimates the delta variant accounts for about 10% of new cases in the U.S. According to CDC data, Missouri had the highest percentage of the delta variant at 6.8% of reported cases as of May 22, and is now leading the nation with the newest COVID-19 cases per 100,000 residents over the last seven days. Dr. Echols fields questions regarding the COVID-19 delta variant.. There are six variants of COVID-19 spreading across the world, and Dr. Echols distinguishes between the variants impacting the region. Here are the questions asked this week:

Lionel from 63106 asked, “We’ve heard a lot about virus variants over the past couple of weeks. What are variants?”

Portia from 63112 asked, “How common is this delta variants that we are hearing so much about?”

Neil from 63115 asked, “Are the symptoms for the delta variant the same as they are for other SARS CoV-2 variants?”
